About the event

These sessions are designed for parents, family members, and carers who want to actively engage with their children to enhance their communication skills.

The focus is on creating a supportive environment where children can develop their speech, language, and communication abilities.

Specifically for those whose speech and language is delayed or wanting to learn Makaton.

What is Makaton?

Makaton is a method of communication developed over several years to assist children who struggle with natural speech. It incorporates both sounds and speech alongside symbols and signs derived from BSL. By combining these elements, Makaton aims to stimulate sounds and words while providing a visual clue. This approach helps children improve their communication skills, express their needs more clearly, and boost their self-esteem and confidence.

Why Makaton?:

  • Makaton promotes inclusion by enabling children with and without language difficulties to communicate more easily.
  • It bridges gaps and fosters understanding, allowing children to learn, play, and interact together.

Using Makaton with Singing is a delightful and effective way to introduce young children to this valuable communication tool. By combining signs with singing, we create a multisensory learning experience that engages both visual and auditory senses. Here’s why it’s such a fantastic approach:

Enhanced Learning: When we incorporate Makaton signs into songs, the lyrics come alive visually. Children not only hear the words but also see the corresponding signs, reinforcing their understanding and memory.

These four sessions will build each week to enable young children to learn Makaton signs to different songs, this is a great way to pick up lots of new Makaton signs in a fun way.
